Trevor Lawrence Jr.: What happens when you take two brothers raised in a deeply musical household, surround them with analog gear, discipline, and soul—and let them loose in the industry? You don’t just get producers. You get The Avila Brothers. Trevor: Welcome to The TrevBeats Show. I’m Trevor Lawrence Jr., and today we’ve got Grammy-winning legends in the building—Bobby Ross Avila and IZ Avila. How you guys feeling? Bobby Avila: Man, we good. Blessed to be here. IZ Avila: Absolutely. Thanks for having us. Trevor: Let’s go all the way back. You guys grew up in a musical family. What did that environment look like? Bobby: Music was everything in our house. Our dad had a studio setup, instruments everywhere—especially keyboards. We were around a Minimoog early on. That was normal for us. IZ: Yeah, we didn’t know anything else. Music wasn’t something we chose later—it was already part of who we were. Trevor: That’s different. Most people discover music. You guys were born into it. Bobby: Exactly. And we were always experimenting—sounds, grooves, textures. That curiosity never left. Trevor: Talk to me about those early days going into music stores. IZ: Man, that was like Disneyland for us. You’d go in, play everything, learn from other musicians, hear new sounds. That’s something that’s missing today. Bobby: Yeah, discovery was physical back then. You had to go find it. Now everything is digital—but there was something about that hands-on experience. Trevor: Let’s shift into Confessions. That album changed everything. Bobby: Working on Confessions with Usher was a moment. We were locked in creatively, just focused on making something timeless. IZ: It wasn’t about chasing hits. It was about feeling. That’s always been our approach. Trevor: And then fast forward—you’re part of the Super Bowl halftime show. Bobby: That was surreal. Going from studio work to something on that scale—it requires a completely different mindset. IZ: Yeah, everything becomes 360. You’re not just thinking about sound—you’re thinking about visuals, movement, energy, timing… everything. Trevor: You mentioned the “360 principle.” Break that down. Bobby: It’s about understanding the full experience. Not just the record, but how it lives—on stage, on screen, in people’s lives. IZ: You have to think beyond the track. That’s what separates good from great. Trevor: Let’s talk about working together as brothers. How do you manage conflict? IZ: We definitely clash sometimes. But it’s always about the music. Bobby: Yeah, no ego. If something isn’t working, we call it out. The goal is always the best outcome. Trevor: There’s a moment where you said you operate like “one brain.” Bobby: That comes from years of working together. We can finish each other’s ideas. IZ: It’s a trust thing. We know where each other is going creatively. Trevor: You’ve also worked closely with legends like Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. Bobby: They taught us discipline. Attention to detail. Respect for the craft. IZ: And consistency. That’s what builds longevity. Trevor: Speaking of longevity—how have you stayed relevant? Bobby: Stay curious. Stay humble. Keep learning. IZ: And don’t chase trends. Focus on what’s real. Trevor: We have to talk about AI. What’s your perspective? Bobby: It’s a tool. But it can’t replace human emotion. IZ: Exactly. Music is about feeling. If that’s gone, what are we doing? Trevor: So how do we protect that human element? Bobby: By staying connected to why we started. The emotion, the passion—that has to lead. IZ: Technology should support creativity, not replace it. Trevor: Let’s talk about the future. Where do you see music going? Bobby: It’s going to keep evolving. But the foundation stays the same—great songs, real emotion. IZ: And the next generation—we have to pour into them. Trevor: That’s something you’re both doing actively. IZ: Yeah, giving back is important. Teaching, mentoring—that’s part of the legacy. Bobby: It’s bigger than us. Always has been. Trevor: Before we wrap—one phrase that stood out: “Driven by goosebumps.” Bobby: If it doesn’t move you, it’s not it. IZ: That feeling—that’s the standard. Trevor: Man… that’s powerful. Thank you both for coming through. This was incredible. Bobby & IZ: Appreciate you. Trevor: And to everyone watching—this is The TrevBeats Show. We’ll see you next time.
